Music Ministry

Mission Statement
He said "I will declare Your name to my brothers; in the presence of the congregation I will sing Your praises." Hebrews 2:12.
The Bible speaks throughout of lifting up praises to God the Father through music. What better way to lift up praises to our Lord than to join with others in singing.  We welcome and encourage everyone to actively participate in the music here at Rock Creek. The services are a blend of traditional hymns and contemporary songs. It is the desire of the music ministry that through music, spirits are lifted and hearts are prepared for God to speak through the sermon and through this body of believers.

FROM THE MUSIC MINISTER

Greetings Church!

What comes to mind when you initially think of "October"? I would venture to say the most common response is something related to Halloween. Wouldn't you agree? Let me put another thought into your mind--Reformation Day.

This event is traditionally commemorated on October 31. In fact, this year is the 500th anniversary of Reformation Day! "What's so important about this day?" you ask. To put it briefly, this commemorates the time when Martin Luther nailed his Ninety-five Theses to the church door in Wittenberg, Germany in 1517. He was openly protesting some of the twisted practices (especially indulgences) of the early Roman Catholic Church.

As a result of the bravery and faithfulness of Martin Luther and other leaders of the protestant Reformation, you and I get to actively partake in worship service in our own language, we get to worship in song in our own language, we get to have our own copies of the Scriptures to study in our own language, and we are not obligated to have to go through an earthly priest to confess our sins and receive forgiveness, among other things.

"A Mighty Fortress is Our God" was written by Martin Luther himself in 1529. The version we typically hear today is different than what was originally composed and according to one scholar the hymn is "a defiant song of battle against the forces of evil in the world." The beginning of the song is based on Psalm 46 - "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." Praise be to God for those who have stood to uphold Biblical truth and preserve the purity of the gospel - by grace we are saved through faith in Christ Jesus alone!

I'll see you Sunday,

Bro. Steve

We have started a new choir program. We will be bringing special music pieces during the services.  The choir meets at 5:00 pm on Sundays in the Choir Room.  We welcome anyone who has a desire to sing to join us.  We have fun as well as grow as musicians as we lift up our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We are grateful to have a wonderful group of very talented instrumentalists here at Rock Creek.   The Rock Creek Praise Ensemble is a group of musicians who willingly give of themselves each week in preparation for the Sunday service.  We work hard to prepare the music for the following Sunday and have a lot of laughs in the process. The Praise Ensemble has a heart for using their talents to glorify the Lord.  If you would like to participate, contact Bro. Steve.  We look forward to seeing you.
