Weston Young, Youth Minister

I am excited to serve as Youth Minister at Rock Creek Baptist Church and I am excited to see where the Lord takes this congregation through the discipleship of their students.

I have spent the majority of my life in Shawnee, Oklahoma. I graduated high school in 2014 and began my education at Oklahoma Baptist University. I graduated from OBU in December 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies and a minor in Student Ministry.

I married Sally Berry June 2, 2018. We met at OBU in 2014 when a friend introduced us our freshman year and we have been dating since.

I have had the opportunity to serve student ministries as a summer staff with the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma at Falls Creek in 2015, and the Student Ministry Intern for First Baptist Church of Mustang and Immanuel Baptist Church of Shawnee. I have always been excited to serve the Church through Student Ministry because I see the importance of training families and students in discipleship so that they might engage the secular world with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

My family have been faithful believers my entire life, and they were always faithful to raise me in the Church. I remember when I was very young I realized that God existed, I was sinful, and I needed forgiveness for those sins. However, I also realized that if I went down and went through the motions it would make my family very happy so I spent my life into my early teenage years going through the motions, but never truly accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. This caused great confusion within my mind because I realized that the decision that I made when I was a child was simply saying the right things and doing the motions. However, when I was 14 years old in 2009 the Holy Spirit called me to salvation in Jesus Christ and for the first time I accepted Him as my Lord and Savior. Since that day I have experienced the true love and transformation of the Gospel. In 2014, I obediently answered the call upon my life to Student Ministry and the Lord has been faithful to provide me with ways to serve the Church. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve at RCBC.

I am grateful for the salvation and redemption that has been bought by the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ so that we might know true relationship with the Creator of the Universe. As Hebrews 7:25 says, "Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them".
